Fence Posts
Here at Mill Timber Direct, we offer a number of options when it comes to fencing, fence posts and gate posts. We offer a wide selection of wooden fence and gate posts, in addition to some concrete options. The advantages of opting for wood fence posts include lower initial purchase costs, improved aesthetics and design options, timber is a renewable resource, easier/cheaper installation, and better security because panels can be screwed onto wooden fence posts.
UC4 Graded Timber for In-ground Applications
We would also recommend opting for UC4 graded timber gate posts, which have been dried to reduce moisture content and treated on a specific treatment cycle to absorb the treatment deep into the wood. This gives the wood greater protection for use in the ground. UC4 graded timber could last up to 15 years.
A Range of Fence Post Sizes are Available
75mm, 95mm, 100mm, 150mm and 200mm wooden fence posts are available from Mill Timber Direct. We would recommend fixing post caps to the top of the posts to prevent water ingress from rain and help run-off; the caps also give a neat finish to your fence.
We also supply timber stake posts and straining posts for agricultural use.
If you are based in the South Wales area, embarking on a fence-based project and have been wondering "Is there somewhere I can buy fence posts near me?" Then we can help. We offer a 'click and collect' service should you be local or passing through the area or a delivery service if you live or are based further away.
Fencing Posts FAQs
How Long Do Fence Posts Last?
The lifespan of fence posts can vary depending on the material, maintenance and the weather conditions. Usually pressure treated wooden posts can last around 20 to 30 years, whilst metal or concrete posts can last significantly longer, usually exceeding 50 years. Posts will deteriorate faster when exposed to harsh conditions.
How Long Should Fence Posts Be?
The depth of a fence post will depend on various factors, such as the soil type and fence height. We recommend that posts should generally be buried to 600mm. This will provide stability and stop the fence from failing, especially when exposed to strong wind.
