Homegrown Cedar
Homegrown cedar is a softwood which is FSC-rated, air-dried and grown right here in the UK. It is a more sustainable and environmentally friendly option than using Canadian-grown western red cedar and if you are concerned about your carbon footprint, using locally sourced wood will greatly reduce the impact on the environment compared to using imported species of wood.
Homegrown cedar is a fast-growing wood with a unique character. Every single piece is different and individual due to the small to medium knots appearing in the grain, which have subtle feathered edges. In its natural state, homegrown cedar is an attractive, soft amber colour and if you leave it untreated, it will fade to a beautiful silvery grey. Homegrown cedar also has a life span of around 15-20 years (if not in contact with the ground) and it is a very stable, versatile wood which can be used in a variety of different settings.
At Mill Timber Direct, we stock a range of homegrown cedar cladding from the Premier Claddings range, which is produced and machined in the UK from top-quality timber in their in-house workshops. Wooden cladding can be used either internally or externally and it creates a distinctive look for your home. When used externally, homegrown cedar can also help insulate and protect your house from the elements and can enhance the exterior of your property. We stock feather edge cladding, shiplap cladding, vertical and horizontal shadow gap cladding, screen cladding and v-joint cladding, so there is something in our range for every home improvement project.
As we often have many of our cladding products in stock, our expected delivery time is 3-5 working days (subject to confirmation). We can also supply everything else you need for your cladding project, including all fittings and wall battens.
