Wooden Gate Posts

When installing new wooden gate posts or replacing old ones it's important to ensure you buy a wooden gate post that will be up to the job and will give many years of use. We stock a range of wooden gate posts for hanging garden, entrance, and field gates - all are pressure treated for better protection and durability and generally sourced from responsibly managed woodlands. It is essential when purchasing a wooden gate post that it is appropriate to the style and dimensions of the gate. For use with a lighter garden gate, a post of 95mm x 95mm will be suitable whilst a sturdier garden gate will require a wooden gate post of at least 100mm x 100mm. A wooden gate post for hanging a field gate will require a much heavier post and will be typically 150mm x 150mm (more commonly known as a 6x6 gate post). 

When choosing the length of your gate post, allow a minimum of 600mm (2ft) for setting into the ground and for lasting stability the wooden gate post should have a concrete footing. We would also recommend opting for UC4 graded timber gate posts, which has been dried to reduce moisture content and treated on a specific treatment cycle to absorb the treatment deep into the wood.  This gives the wood greater protection for use in the ground.
