Architraves & Skirtings

Here at Mill Timber Direct, we are often asked whether you need a separate product for skirting and architraves. The answer to that question is yes. Skirting boards are made from thicker wood and are fitted around the room where the floor meets the walls whilst the architrave is constructed from a thinner wood and sits around the door frame and covers where the plaster meets the wooden frame. We stock a range of skirting and architraves that will suit every style of the room and give a professional finish throughout your home.

In our range of skirting products, we currently stock three different sizes of Torus/Ogee skirting boards. Torus boards have a more formal semi-circular moulding along the top of the board and Ogee boards have a more relaxed wave style. The beauty of some boards being reversible is that you can decide upon the finish you require and use either side accordingly.

Our boards come with a smooth finish that is ready to be painted, stained or varnished to suit your decor and colour scheme. All the wood used in our skirting collection is quality, slow-grown Redwood timber that is renowned for being durable, strong and long-lasting. This is also a stronger alternative to an MDF skirting board which doesn't have the same enduring qualities. All our timber is also sustainable sourced timber which means that the wood has been harvested responsibly from a well-managed forest and isn't damaging the surrounding environment

The use of architraves goes all the way back to the Ancient Greeks who used elaborate plaster mouldings around their doors to demonstrate their wealth and status. The Victorians introduced the use of the wooden architrave that still continues to this day. At Mill Timber Direct, we stock the Torus architrave, which is a stylish, elegant and contemporary product that will provide an excellent finish to your door frames. The wood is smooth and planed, ready for painting, staining or varnishing and, as with our skirting products, all of our timber is durable and sustainable.
