Timber Supplies - Types of Timber
Our graded timber products include softwood C16 grade (treated or untreated) which is ideal for studwork, joists, and timber framing. Our C24 graded Whitewood is PEFC-certified and is able to withstand heavier loads than C16 grade. We also offer TR26 graded timber which is a very strong material that can be used in construction projects.
Our rough sawn timber products include treated softwood, a great option for decking, fencing and smaller landscaping projects.
Our planed smooth timber range includes treated and non-treated Whitewood, Redwood Pine, and Red Cedar. Redwood Pine is a great choice for decking or fences, Whitewood is a popular option for interior use, and the Red Cedar is extremely strong and long-lasting, making it ideal for use on construction projects.

Timber Supplies FAQs
What is the difference between wood & timber?
Wood is the material name all timbers and logs are made into. Essentially timber is a wooden log which is then converted into a beam, board etc.
What is good quality timber?
Timber is classed to be good when it is free from defects that are caused by natural forces like burls and knots. Here at Mill Timber Direct we only stock timber that is completely free from burls & knots to ensure you get the best timber possible.
What Are The Uses of Timber?
Timber has a wide variety of uses in construction, and it is commonly used for building and framing houses due to its strength and insulating properties. Timber can also be used for outdoor structures, including decks, fences, sheds, and landscaping projects, and it is also made into various types of furniture, such as beds, tables, and cabinets for kitchens and bathrooms among other things. At Mill Timber Direct, we stock graded timber, sawn timber, and planed smooth timber, which is suitable for many interior and exterior projects.
Is Timber Sustainable?
Timber can be sustainable where it is sourced from carefully managed forests, as with many of the timbers we sell. By its very nature, timber is a renewable resource and can be recycled at the end of its serviceable life. For peace of mind around sustainably sourced timber, look for products that have FSC® or PEFC certification. While growing, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, capturing carbon which is then stored while being used. As a natural product, timber needs less energy to be produced compared to concrete or steel.
