Cedar Cladding
When it comes to enhancing the beauty and durability of your property's exterior, two exceptional options stand out: homegrown cedar cladding and imported western red cedar cladding. Using these natural wood cladding choices in your building projects provides insulation and protection from the elements.
Sustainably grown and sourced from the United Kingdom, homegrown cedar cladding is available in a variety of styles, including horizontal shadow gap, vertical shadow gap, screen cladding, featheredge and shiplap. Homegrown cedar cladding is faster growing than the imported varieties of wood, meaning that the wood has small to medium knots appearing at the edge. It is amber in colour, which, over time, will fade to a subtle silvery grey. The expected longevity of the wood is between 15 to 20 years if it is installed out of the ground.
Sourced from the forests of North America, imported western red cedar cladding also comes in horizontal shadow gap, vertical shadow gap, tongue and groove and shiplap styles. It is a wood with brown, pink and red tones, and if it is left untreated, it will also fade to an attractive silver grey colour. Imported western red cedar cladding has a longer lifespan than homegrown cedar as it is expected to last over 60 years, if not installed in the ground. It is a very stable wood that will not warp or twist and should not shrink when installed.
Both types of cladding can be used in a variety of different ways. Horizontal shadow gap cladding adds a modern touch to facades, garages and outdoor structures, while the vertical shadow gap style is a perfect choice for walls and entrances. The featheredge variation lends itself to both interior and exterior applications, allowing you to create seamless feature walls and stylish outdoor spaces. Additionally, the shiplap cladding has a traditional feel, ideal for barn-style garages and outbuildings.
